Birdie Gerhl

Birdie Gerhl is a Hamilton-based multidisciplinary artist who makes things for weirdos who want to touch art. She creates interactive, multisensory installations and performances combining drawing, video, textile, and zine projects that evolve over time and invite us to locate disability and difference not in our bodies, but in our relationships. Her work understands that relationships informed by disability, or crip kinship, can be chosen or blood, human or non-human, material or ancestral, and disabled or not. Since 2018, Birdie has mounted four solo exhibitions, in addition to multiple residencies and group shows. In 2024, Birdie was awarded the City of Hamilton Creator Award, and was a recipient of the City of Hamilton Enrichment Fund.
