Rachael Siderius
One of the main elements that drives the creation of Rachael Siderius’ work is the desire to make something that never has existed and may never exist in today’s reality. This is what drove The Social Life of the Forest, an overwhelming image that depicts human figures playing among the trees. For Siderius, the forest is one of the few places that conjures a state of timelessness. Dressed in clothing inspired by historical costume, the figures—the same person multiplied— become timeless like their surroundings. Their impossible repetition prompts the viewer to consider a place beyond reality and possibility.
Based in Guelph, Ontario, Rachael Siderius is an emerging artist, graduating from the joint Art & Art History program at Sheridan College and University of Toronto Mississauga. Combining digital photography and paint, Siderius experiments with diverse media and elements of fantasy to explore the interplay of reality with surreality.
