Shannon King
Inspired by the lockdown period, Shannon King created a costume that doubles as a mobile house. From photographs that document the artist wearing her constructed home, King created a series of paintings that reflect on feelings of isolation and immobility. Utilizing materials taken from the artist’s home, the wearable house represents the artist’s resourcefulness in moments of scarcity. King draws inspiration from hermit crabs and snails whose shells are carried on their backs to which they retreat into for safety and comfort.
Shannon King is a writer and artist, currently completing a double major in English and Art & Art History at Sheridan College and University of Toronto Mississauga. As both an American and Canadian citizen, King has moved between both countries, which has informed her understanding of the notion of home. Drawn to both abstract and analytical writing, King searches for meaning in the written word as well as in photography, printmaking, drawing and digital media.
