Kwentong Bayan Collective examine the history of care work performed by Indigenous and racialized women in Canada. Their expansive illustrated timeline, In Love and Struggle: A Visual Timeline of Caregiving Work in Canada (2017), was developed in collaboration with caregivers, advocates, and community allies about the real-life stories of migrant care workers working in Canada under the federal government’s Caregiver Program and encourages a critical examination of history in support of struggles for radical changes to policy. Care workers have made invaluable contributions to Canada’s social, economic, and political history, yet they have consistently had to fight for their labour to be respected and recognized. Shifts towards justice and equity are rooted in the community’s perseverance, grassroots organizing, and coalition building. Kwentong Bayan’s artwork honours the labour of care workers around the world.
