EXHIBITION 2006
Everyday
Every Other Day

May 18 - June 18, 2006
With Johanna Billing (Sweden), Ilya and
Emilia Kabakov (Russia/USA), Ivan Grubanov (Serbia and Montenegro), Phil McCrum (Canada), Marina Roy (Canada)
Everyday Every Other
Day combines artwork on different trajectories that investigate invasions
of the insidious and irrational into the everydayness of being. This
group exhibition brings together five artists who employ elements of
fixation and repetition in their work when mimicking the familiar, such
as depicting figures of authority, whether political or not, or reworking
subjective or collective fantasy in associative narratives.

ARTIST'S BIOS
Johanna Billing (Sweden) presents her video installation
"You Don't Love Me Yet" which exploits a dramatic repetition
of melody and lyrics to unravel popular constructions of love, while
presenting an evaluation of the formation of contemporary subjectivity.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ilya and
Emilia Kabakov (Russia/USA) have included a print from their
1999 series "The Palace of Projects", a stunning series of
imagined and unrealized project ideas that touch upon realms of fantasy
as well as modernity's history of political organization, totalitarian
or not.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ivan Grubanov (Serbia and Montenegro) will screen his series "Visitor",
a slide projection of 170 drawings he made while witnessing the Hague
Tribunal of former Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Phil McCrum (Canada) presents recent paintings that combine imagery of
political icons or familial authority figures in a clash of language
and visual association.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marina Roy (Canada) will screen her animated video "Sleeper", which investigates
dream narratives, totalitarianism, fantasy and desire. Roy will also
show recent paintings that interweave appropriate iconic political figures
with associative imagery in parlor-like backdrops.
